He Came to Live Among Us

Click on this link to get to the "World Vision Experience: Aids" and check out the sight for opportunities for us to get involved as a church. You can also do some things on your own like join the Hope Prayer Chain or add your name to the No Soldiers Declaration.

Today, we read from I John 1&2 and Pastor Amy talked about how Christmas is more about the brokenness we all live with around and within us than an image of the "Perfect Christmas." Jesus came to our broken world and showed us how to live. He came to bring light and healing to our lives. Amy reminded us to keep the true light in mind this Christmas - the One that is already shining.

The World Vision Experience is staggering. 15 Million children with Aids? I watched a PBS series last week on the genocide and atrocities of the past few years in Africa and was struck by the magnitude of suffering. Women and children are particularly suffering in indescribable circumstances. Our response is so inadequate...God's heart must break. Who will be Jesus in that brokenness? How do we start with the suffering in our own immediate world?

What drives me even more crazy is that the price of the US involvement in the Iraq war ($471 billion as of Thanksgiving 2007) is above the cost it would take to end poverty and famine and most curable disease in Africa.
